Novelist, essayist Carlos Fuentes was 83

The prolific Mexican author and one-time diplomat who was among the most prominent and beloved Latin American writers of his generation, died today in Mexico City. He was 83. His death was reported by Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Twitter. Obit: LA Times
