Occupiers snuff out discourse at Oakland city council

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

An Oakland city council committee was supposed to vote last night on whether to recommend banning shields, clubs, hammers and other Occupy Oakland weapons of choice from future protests. It never happened. Occupy hecklers shouted down opponents, and cursed Councilwoman Pat Kernighan, the committee chair and the proposal’s sponsor. “I want to tell you Pat Kernighan that I could walk up to you and kill you with a F****** pencil. Are you going to outlaw pencils?” one of them told her. The proposal didn’t make it to a vote, the Oakland Tribune says.
