Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson accused of fudging credentials

Thursday, May 3, 2012

He’s accused of lying about his educational credentials since he ran PayPal for parent eBay and in the four months since becoming Yahoo’s boss. Hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb sent a letter today that says Thompson’s resume says he has undergraduate degrees in accounting and computer science from Stonehill College near Boston. Yahoo is now saying that Thompson’s degree from Stonehill is in business administration with a major in accounting. Yahoo is calling it an “inadvertent error.”

Add: Loeb’s letter also casts doubt on the credentials of Yahoo board member Patti Hart, who led the search committee that hired Thompson after former CEO Carol Bartz was fired. Hart claims undergraduate degrees at Illinois State University but the Mercury News says an investigation shows she received a single degree in business administration.
