That Sacramento Bee investigative series calling into question the structural integrity of the Bay Bridge’s east span has struck a powerful nerve at Caltrans. After gritting its teeth for nearly two weeks after the stories appeared, the agency has come out swinging, calling for a retraction earlier this week.
