Caltrans is calling a Sacramento Bee story May 27 raising questions about the structural integrity of the Bay Bridge’s east span “completely inaccurate” and is demanding a retraction. For its part, the newspaper says it stands by its investigative series on the bridge as “accurate and fair.” Among other things, the Bee found that a builder failed to disclose that a 19-foot section of concrete in the bridge’s foundation hadn’t hardened before it was tested. Caltrans disputes that. Sac Bee
