Dick Beals had a glandular condition that resulted in his weighing less than 70 pounds, never growing past 4 feet, six inches tall and a voice that didn’t change after grade school. Which is why the voice actor whose radio and television career spanned seven decades could be the title voice of “The Gumby Show” in the 1950s and Speedy Alka-Seltzer years later. He died Tuesday at a care home in the San Diego County community of Vista. He was 85. Obit: LA Times
