Did another Nancy Pelosi speakership just slip away?

Nancy Pelosi has said that the road to a Democratic House majority—and her getting another crack at being Speaker—runs through California. But after two shining star Dems failed to make the November cut in yesterday’s primary—one in Southern California, the other in the San Joaquin Valley—that’s suddenly looking a lot less likely. Democrats likely need to increase their numbers in the delegation from 34 to 39 seats to have any chance to win back the House later this year. But to do that, they will need to win all 11 California races listed on our competitive race chart, even though they only have the advantage in six districts while another is a pure toss-up."
