Got to love the diplomatic response from a Metropolitan Transportation Commission official when asked by Mercury News transportation columnist Gary Richards whether to expect ferry service to the lower Peninsula anytime soon. The question was passed along from reader Conrad Schapira who noted that since there’s now an East Bay to South San Francisco ferry (hugely benefiting Genentech workers), wouldn’t it make sense to open a line serving Facebook’s new home in Menlo Park. The answer:
"Given the comparatively high operating costs of ferry service, expansion plans over the next 25 years are likely to fall far short of Mr. Schapira's vision."
