Halsey Minor’s palatial homes sit empty, abandoned

Monday, June 4, 2012

More woe for one-time tech wunderkind Halsey Minor, 47, who turned up at the top of California’s list of tax scofflaws in April, owing $10 million. He’s the San Francisco entrepreneur who made a killing during the first tech boom, founding CNET (later sold to CBS) and the service which later became Google Voice, among others. A Washington Post piece last week recounts that the historic 1750 Virginia mansion that he bought from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 2007 with big plans to restore sits abandoned and decaying five years later.

Add: It’s the same fate that has befallen Le Petit Trianon (pictured), the historic Presidio Heights estate here that he bought the same year amid plans to have Obama White House redecorator Michael S. Smith transform it. That never happened either.
