Judge orders 2 Oakland prostitution motels shuttered

Friday, June 1, 2012

It’s being called a first for Oakland: a judge has ordered two infamous prostitution haven motels in East Oakland to close for a year after city officials sued the motels under the state’s Red Light Abatement Act. Owners of the National Lodge and Economy Inn will pay $45,000 in fines, the city’s legal expenses, and be required to prevent the properties from becoming blighted during the year they’re closed.
