News and notes:
  • New ferry service between Oakland/Alameda and South San Francisco begins today, the first new Bay Area ferry line in 20 years. AP
  • The Diocese of Oakland is evicting Casa Vincentia, an anti-abortion home for homeless mothers at an old East Oakland convent that the diocese says is seismically unsafe. Oakland Tribune
  • The Giants’ rehabbing Pablo Sandoval was warmly received by fans in two weekend appearances with the single-A San Jose Giants while an investigation into a woman’s claim that he sexually assaulted her near Santa Cruz continues. Chronicle
  • Alameda supervisors are expected Tuesday to give their OK to asking voters to raise the sales tax for transportation from a half cent to 1 cent. Contra Costa Times
  • Seinfeld Actor Jason Alexander apologized for joking during a TV talk show that he considers cricket to be a “gay” sport. AP
