Orange County Register sold, but not to MediaNews Group

Article Tab: The Orange County Register was bought by Raymond Cyrus R.C. Hoiles in 1935 and became the flagship paper of what was to become Freedom Communications Inc.The once-proud flagship of the Freedom Communications chain has been sold to a private equity group headed by Boston-area businessman Aaron Kushner. Kushner had earlier tried to buy the Boston Globe. The sub-story here: the Register doesn’t fall into the grasp of MediaNews Group, which wanted it but couldn’t arrange financing. OC Register
