Report: Bill Lockyer interested in being Cal State chancellor

Friday, June 29, 2012

It’s widely assumed that the state treasurer’s next run for public office will be for state controller in 2014, but Capitol Alert cites a “source familiar with the search process” as saying Lockyer has expressed interest in becoming chancellor of the Cal State system. He isn’t talking. Charles Reed announced his retirement as chancellor last month.

Add: If it’s true, there’s of course this possible motivation: Lockyer’s current salary is $139,000. Young makes $421,500. And of course Lockyer’s wife, Nadia, the ex-Alameda County supe, is now unemployed.
