The same sex marriage issue moved a step closer to the U. S. Supreme Court this morning after the Ninth U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco declined to reconsider its ruling striking down Prop 8 as unconstitutional. A three-judge panel of the court invalidated the measure in February and Prop 8 backers sought to have the full court take up the issue. But a majority, over vehement dissents from conservative judges, said no. Chronicle
