Debra J. Saunders goes to bat again for Ross Mirkarimi

Sunday, July 1, 2012

Regardless of whether he keeps his job, suspended Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, who settled his domestic violence case with a misdemeanor plea, probably owes Chronicle columnist Debra J. Saunders a box of chocolates. She’s been the most persistent, eloquent and persuasive voice among those who believe that Mayor Ed Lee and the city’s political establishment are guilty of piling on Mirkarimi. There’s another piece today.

Add: Mirkarimi has been forced apart from his wife, Eliana Lopez, who’s in his corner, for months. She’s in Venezuela with the couple’s young son largely out of economic necessity, since Mirkarimi, whose legal bills continue to pile up, hasn’t been paid since Lee suspended him.
