The 71-year-old state treasurer has filed for divorce from his troubled wife, whose brief political career as an Alameda County supervisor crashed in resignation three months ago after a sex and drug scandal. Justin Burton at the Chronicle says Bill Lockyer filed divorce papers Friday, citing irreconcilable differences and that he’s seeking joint custody of the couple’s 8-year-old son.
In an interview, Nadia Lockyer, 41, tells the Chronicle that the couple long-ago agreed to end their nine-year marriage but that things came to a head over the weekend during an argument over the “security of our family.” An excerpt:
“My husband and I have differed on how to protect the family,” she said. “I feel he has abandoned me and my child and it’s created an unsafe circumstance.”
