City wants to evict gun club from Lake Merced

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Might it soon be possible to take a stroll around brackish Lake Merced without being bombarded by the sound of gunfire? Maybe. San Francisco’s Public Utilities Commission wants to evict the city’s only shooting range, the Pacific Rod and Gun Club from its decades-long home near the lake. At least that’s how the gun club is interpreting the city’s attempt to up its rent from $5,000 to $50,000 a month.

CBS San Francisco says the 400-member club was given an eviction notice last Friday. An excerpt:
… The Public Utilities Commission said the sweetheart deal is over and attempts have failed to reach a modern lease deal. The city is also facing a $10 million tab to clean up lead waste from decades of spent ammo and clay ducks.
