Merc publishes another obit for ex-Olympic swimmer—3 weeks later

Thursday, July 26, 2012

After 1948 London Olympics gold medalist and lifelong Bay Area resident Ann Curtis Cuneo died in San Rafael in June, the Mercury News ran her obituary (produced at MediaNews Group sibling the Marin IJ) July 5. And today, the Merc runs another Curtis Cuneo obit, this one from AP, with this lede:
SAN RAFAEL -- Ann Curtis, who broke numerous world and national swimming records and won three medals at the 1948 Olympic games, has died. She was 86.
The obituary gods get crazy sometimes. Both the New York Times (July 24) and Los Angeles Times (today) each finally got around to publishing their own Curtis Cuneo obit in time for the Olympics. One imagines that AP moved a reworked version of one of them. She died a month ago today.
