Oakland’s Roman Catholic Bishop Salvatore J. Cordileone, 56, has been appointed by the Vatican to become the next Archbishop of San Francisco to replace soon-to-retire Archbishop George Niederauer. He’s to be installed Oct. 4. As chair of the church’s national subcommittee to protect and promote traditional marriage, the archbishop-designate is a chief supporter of California’s Prop 8, prohibiting same sex marriage. He’s been Oakland’s bishop since 2009. Catholic San FranciscoImage: National Catholic Register
