Presidio Social Club backs away from foie gras, or does it?

Friday, July 20, 2012

After a week’s publicity, Presidio Social Club, the restaurant at the federally-owned Presidio that’s continued to serve foie gras because it isn’t subject to the state’s ban on the duck liver specialty, is standing down. Or is it?

The restaurant’s landlord, the Presidio Trust, has been none too happy about the national headlines the eatery has garnered by promoting the dish since the ban took effect. But the statement released by the restaurant, and reported by Inside Scoop SF, is, purposely or not, non-conclusive:

Presidio Social Club respects and empathizes with the Presidio Trust and their position on the California state ban of the sale of foie gras. As a result, Presidio Social Club will not have foie gras on the restaurant’s menu nor will it be promoted.

But if a patron asks, is it available?
