Sacramento bombshell: State parks chief resigns amid scandal

Gov. Jerry Brown this morning accepted the resignation of state parks department director Ruth Coleman and her chief deputy after officials learned that the department had been sitting on nearly $54 million in surplus money it had kept secret. The Sacramento Bee broke the story after rumors of the surplus surfaced in connection with State Parks’ carrying out a secret vacation buyout program for members of its headquarters staff. Sac Bee
