First local fallout from Apple’s retreat from “green” certification standards for its products: the city of San Francisco will no longer buy Apple desktops and laptops, the Wall Street Journal says.
The Journal broke the news about Apple’s decision to pull all 39 of its MacBooks and desktops from a certification program established by EPEAT, the industry group that sets minimum standards for energy efficiency, use of toxic materials and disposal.
From today’s column by WSJ’s Joel Schectman:
“We are disappointed that Apple chose to withdraw from EPEAT,” said Melanie Nutter, director of San Francisco’s Department of Environment, “and we hope that the city saying it will not buy Apple products will make Apple reconsider its participation.”
