Tony Robbins’ ‘firewalk’ gets hot in San Jose; 21 treated for burns

Friday, July 20, 2012

That was quite a Tony Robbins seminar at San Jose’s convention center last night. Dubbed “Unleash the Power Within,” about 6,000 people turned out to hear the author, self-help guru and infomercial king, after which the crowd walked to the park across the street for a firewalk on hot coals. It’s something Robbins promotes as “The Firewalk Experience.” At least 21 people were treated for burns, and of those, at least three were taken to a hospital.

From the Mercury News:

San Jose Fire Capt. Reggie Williams said the event organizers had emergency personnel on standby and they treated 21 people at the scene. Firefighters responded to 911 calls for three of the people who suffered more serious burns, Williams said.

Later in the night, firefighters responded to more 911 calls from people in area hotels who had suffered burn injuries. Williams did not know how many of those people had already been treated.
