AP’s recap of last night’s Chevron refinery fire in Richmond, which is close to Berkeley, which is next to Oakland, bears a . . . San Francisco dateline. The second graph describes Richmond as “about 10 miles northeast of San Francisco.”
The Mercury News plugged the story, unaltered, into its website, thus giving local readers the same oddly-San Francisco-centric geographic description as those in, say, Miami.
