More newsrack blowback: ‘The Mercury News is Lying’

Friday, August 3, 2012

That “Mercury News is Lying” hed is attached to publisher Dan Pulcrano’s post this morning at San Jose Inside accusing the Merc of stealing newsracks of smaller newspapers (including those of his own Metro San Jose) that turned up on its back lot. The Merc denies it, if somewhat unconvincingly, in a written statement. So far, the newspaper’s brass has resisted media interviews about what happened. Pulcrano’s post is here.

As for the photo above, San Jose Inside’s cutline reads: “Mercury News executives stood with a police officer on Wednesday while newsrack owners were asked to wait on the sidewalk for nearly two hours.”

The post describes the photo below this way: “This is how the Mercury News ‘stored’ the news racks it claimed it was going to return. The rusty white rack is the Merc’s. The new custom red one, built in 2012, is Metro’s.”
