No joke: Orange County Register is ‘adding’ staff

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

oc-register.jpgHow’s this for the flip side of MediaNews Group chief John Paton’s “print is dead” mantra? At the Orange County Register, they’re hiring, for print, bigtime. The 25 new positions management has authorized (apparently not all are on the jobs board yet) include: local columnist, restaurant critic, movie critic, auto writer, and others.

New owner and Boston businessman Tom Kushner’s philosophy is that people will pay for quality for both a print newspaper and online content, and he’s putting his money where his mouth is.

Noted: This is the same OC Register that MediaNews coveted when Kushner bought it from Freedom Communications in June.
