We interrupt this refinery fire for a word from our sponsor—Chevron

Even as Chevron’s Richmond refinery fire filled the air with black smoke last night the oil giant’s commercials played on—during local news outlets’ coverage of the fire no less. Dave Price at San Francisco Peninsula Press Club flagged a couple: one on KCBS news radio about an hour after the blaze broke out; the other during KTVU 2’s 10 p.m. news block.

Both ads were from Chevron’s “We Agree” repertoire, like the one above that portrays the San Ramon-based company as more a philanthropic organization than a huge profit-generator with a tarnished environmental record.
