On the way to saying that Jeff Tedford hasn’t produced a quarterback since Aaron Rogers while leading Cal to perennial mediocrity, the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat’s Lowell Cohn may have set a world record for longest apology in the lede of a sports column today:
I want to be careful here. I am going to criticize Cal football coach Jeff Tedford because he deserves it.
But I also know Tedford is a good man, someone you'd want to mentor your son. He has all the right values and he's decent and he works hard. He is a person you can feel proud of, and you would enjoy to have dinner with him, or just spend time with him.
I am going to criticize him and it makes me sad to criticize him.
Then the rip begins.
