The first and most heavily charged of the six defendants accused of gang-raping a girl in a darkened courtyard at Richmond High School after she left a homecoming dance in 2010 has accepted a plea deal. Manuel Ortega, 22 (pictured), who faced life in prison, pleaded guilty Thursday to four felony counts just as jury selection in his trial was about to get underway. He’s to be sentenced to 32 years in prison, although how that translates to actual time served wasn’t immediately clear.
