Weather: Record summer heat in the Central Valley

Monday, September 24, 2012

Turns out the summer just ended was a scorcher in the Central Valley, with a slew of cities and towns experiencing temperatures well above (already hot) normal. Craig Miller at KQED’s Climate Watch blog says Fresno saw 27 days above the norm during August, and quotes veteran farmers as ranking the summer heat among the worst they’ve experienced. (That’s a recent photo from downtown Davis.) An excerpt:

Valley towns including Redding, Red Bluff, Sacramento, Merced, Madera, Fresno, and Bakersfield, have been on the order of three-to-five degrees above normal for the duration of August and September.
