Lots of semantics in local media coverage of the NFL’s naming Santa Clara a finalist (along with the Miami area) for the 2016 Super Bowl. There will, of course, be no Super Bowl in San Francisco. Rather, if the bid succeeds, the game will be played in the 49ers stadium under construction in Santa Clara. But the bid calls for San Francisco to be designated as “host city,” part of a deal the 49ers organization struck with City Hall back in May while negotiating an early-out to its Candlestick Park lease.
