Given the negative press it has garnered from the Richmond refinery fire, you might think Chevron would pause a bit in its effort to avoid paying more taxes to Contra Costa County. But no. Chevron, whose TV spots make it sound more like a public benefit organization than an oil company, is challenging an appeals board decision that the Richmond refinery was under-assessed by up to $27 million.
