Court appointee scolds Oakland PD brass for ‘lack of commitment’ to reforms

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Another stinging rebuke of Oakland Police Department management. Less than two months from when a federal judge is expected to decide whether the department is placed under federal control, the court’s monitor, Robert Warshaw, says the department is regressing in its years-long failure to implement reforms ordered after the so-called Riders scandal. Here’s Warshaw’s money quote, via the Oakland Tribune:

"The department finds itself in this state not for lack of equipment or resources or personnel, but for the seeming lack of commitment to the core principles that are at the foundation of an agreement that is now a decade old."
