Disney to acquire Lucasfilm, grow the ‘Star Wars’ franchise

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Disney has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm, along with the latter’s Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, for $4.05 billion, with long-range plans for a string of more Star Wars sequels, the first in 2015. The seller, Marin resident and Lucasfilm founder and chairman George Lucas, pictured, will serve as a (rather exceptionally wealthy) consultant.

If you’re keeping track, the purchase adds to the growing list of Disney acquisitions that include ESPN, ABC, Marvel and Pixar, which went for $4.2 billion back in 2006. AP
