As she runs for Alameda County supervisor, termed-out Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi (D-Castro Valley) has continued to portray her shoplifting at a Neiman Marcus store as an “honest mistake,” despite her conviction as the result of a no contest plea. But San Francisco district attorney George Gascon, during an appearance yesterday on Ronn Owens’ KGO radio program, made it clear that the “honest mistake” notion didn’t factor into Hayashi’s plea deal:
“We don’t take cases to court unless we believe we have evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. In the case of Ms. Hayashi, we had plenty of evidence to prove the case to a reasonable doubt.”
