Today’s Labor Department numbers showing that the unemployment rate dipped to 7.8 percent in September elicited immediate squeals of derision from the Wall Street and Tea Party crowds. Ex-General Electric CEO Jack Welch (pictured) tweets: “These Chicago guys [the Obama campaign] will do anything . . . can’t debate so change numbers.” And commodities trader turned right wing media darling Rick Santeli says: “I told you they’d get it under 8 percent—they did!” NPR
