Mayor Lee and his forces dig in their heels against Ross Mirkarimi

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Hell hath no wrath like a mayor scorned? Mayor Ed Lee evidently has no intention of burying the hatchet after failing to oust Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi from office in the wake of his spouse abuse scandal. A couple of things are brewing a week before the election. The mayor is considering transferring domestic violence programs from the Sheriff’s Department. And DA George Gascon is fronting the push for a new county law to wall off Mirkarimi from domestic violence cases.

Meanwhile, others with ties to the mayor have joined a last-ditch campaign to defeat Christina Olague in the District 5 supervisor’s race after the mayoral appointee broke ranks with her boss and voted to help Mirkarimi keep his job. Among the key contributors to an independent expenditure committee formed to oust her: Gayle Conway, wife of tech investor and Lee confidante Ron Conway. Chronicle
