Port of Oakland chief suspended amid probe into agency’s finances

Friday, October 19, 2012

That $4,500 strip club bill disguised and submitted for reimbursement on the public dime by Port of Oakland maritime director James Kwon has claimed its first head—that of his boss. The port’s executive director, Omar Benjamin (pictured) was suspended and placed on administrative leave with pay late Thursday amid indications of a larger investigation into the port’s spending practices.

He was replaced by aviation director Deborah Ale Flint, says KTVU 2, which spent a couple of months digging up the goods on Kwon before the story broke.
