San Francisco’s shadow bus system for Silicon Valley workers

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Ever wonder what a map of the corporate bus lines that transport tech workers between San Francisco and Silicon Valley might look like? Now you know. The schematic is from San Francisco design firm Stamen Design, commissioned by San Jose nonprofit Zero1 for its 2012 biennial exhibit, “Seeking Silicon Valley.” (View bigger version here.)

The Wall Street Journal writes about how the firm used bike messengers and others to collect the data for the corporate transportation network, tracking SF workers headed to Google, eBay, Electronic Arts, Facebook, Apple and Yahoo. Just how many people are on those buses? It estimates 7,500 per day, Monday to Friday.
