State investigates SFUSD over special education chief’s memo

The Bay Citizen’s Trey Bundy reported Monday that San Francisco Unified’s head of middle school special education, Lisa Miller, directed teachers and staff to check with her before authorizing summer school for students, citing “exorbitant” costs. Upshot: The state Department of Education is investigating whether the district violated federal regulations by improperly denying services to special needs students. The Bay Citizen
