One of the two UC Berkeley law students accused of decapitating an exotic bird at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Justin Teixeira, 24, (left) clerked last year with the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division.
He and fellow law student Eric Cuellar, 24, (right) were arrested after witnesses said they chased a rare helmeted guinea fowl into a tree in the hotel’s wildlife habitat, cut its head off, and, according to witnesses, laughed about it. They’ve been released on bail after being booked on suspicion of conspiracy and willful, malicious torture or killing of wildlife, both felonies. Chronicle
