Urban Update: San Francisco’s future tallest skyscraper

Friday, October 19, 2012

The proposed Transbay Tower at First and Mission streets calls for a 1,070 foot high building -- more than 200 feet taller than the Transamerica Pyramid, now San Francisco's tallest building. The top 150 feet are hollow. Photo: Pelli Clarke Pelli / SF

Transbay Tower, the 1,070-foot-tall, 61-story centerpiece of the future Transit Center District, at 101 First Street, received Planning Commission approval yesterday. Suspense still surrounds its financing, but Hines, the Houston developer, sounds optimistic. When built, it’s to eclipse the Transamerica Pyramid as San Francisco’s tallest building—by 217 feet.
