That’s right. The weather cabler has decided it will give winter storms names, you know, like hurricanes. That’s The Weather Channel, not the National Weather Service. Understandably, competitors are miffed. Poynter rounds up the smack, including this quote from AccuWeather CEO Joel Myers: “The Weather Channel has confused media spin with science and public safety.”
The question now: Will other media sheepishly play along?
