No word in the piece on how many CHP officers will be assigned to Oakland (or to Stockton, where a similar deployment is taking place), or when it’s to happen. But Oakland police chief Howard Jordan is quoted as being grateful.

This morning’s piece about the California Highway Patrol deploying personnel to help Oakland’s under-staffed police force comes by way of the MediaNews Group newspaper in . . . Vacaville, the Solano County town about halfway between Oakland and Sacramento. The story is posted to the websites of the Oakland Tribune and Contra Costa Times, which of course operate as editions of the Mercury News.
