It boils down to two words: Elizabeth Emken (pictured). That’s the senator’s little-heard-of GOP challenger from Danville, whose campaign had all of $27,000 in the bank at the end of the June 30 filing period. On top of that, a GOP slate mailer company is suing her for $65,000 it says it’s owed—this after Emken used campaign funds to repay $200,000 she loaned her campaign in the spring. Mercury News
Noted: Emken can’t seem to catch a break. The newspaper In El Dorado County, which ran the image of her (above) at a Tea Party event, mistakenly identified her as a “California State Senate candidate.”
