After 20 terms, Pete Stark is driven from Congress

For Pete Stark, what goes around comes around. He first gained office by painting his Democrat opponent as out of touch on the Vietnam War. That was 40 years ago. After the results were in last night, the 80-year-old, increasingly bellicose 20-term congressman was defeated by upstart fellow Democrat Eric Swalwell, the Dublin councilman and Alameda County prosecutor, to mark the end of an era.

Poor Swalwell. No sooner than he celebrates victory than the Mercury News’ Josh Richman notes he’ll likely face big-foot opposition in 2014 from former Obama administration official and newly-published author Ro Khanna of Fremont. Mercury News
