Belva Davis, 80, who’ll be anchoring KQED’s election coverage tonight, officially retires with Friday’s upcoming “This Week in Northern California,” the public affairs show she’s hosted for years. She’s been a tradition on Bay Area television since coming aboard at KPIX (CBS 5) back in 1966 as the first black female TV reporter on the West Coast. Her guest Friday: poet and longtime friend Maya Angelou.
The Mercury News’ Chuck Barney says KQED is in no hurry to name Davis’s replacement at “This Week” and will use a series of guest hosts for at least the rest of the year.
