Boondoggle-in-waiting: $175 million for 200 new riders?

How’s this for gold-plated transportation planning? In the South Bay, the Valley Transportation Authority’s plans for a 1.6-mile light rail extension to serve Los Gatos is estimated to cost up to $175 million. But VTA’s updated daily ridership projections suggest only 200 people would board. To which Santa Clara County transportation commissioner Dave Fadness tells the Mercury News:

"You could buy every one of (the riders) a Bentley and a driver. It's crazy."
