Historic oyster farm to be booted from Point Reyes National Seashore

Thursday, November 29, 2012

100_1755Interior secretary Ken Salazar announced this morning that he will shut down Drakes Bay Oyster Co., the historic oyster farm along Point Reyes National Seashore, ending a long-running environmental battle. Its lease expires tomorrow.

Salazar had personally visited the oyster farm just last week. The company had some powerful allies in its corner, including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and even the National Academy of Sciences, which accused the National Park Service of exaggerating the oyster farm’s impacts on the environment. AP
