After outrage, the Moraga School District apologized Wednesday and struck language from its response to a former student’s lawsuit that blamed an ex-middle school teacher’s abusing her on the student. The vote was 4-0, with board president Dexter Louie recusing himself.
The victim, Cal assistant swim coach Kristen Cunnane (pictured), was abused by two teachers at Joaquin Moraga Middle School in the 1990s. One committed suicide; the other is in prison. She says she’s gratified by support from the public, many of whom were livid after school officials essentially blamed Cunnane for the sex abuse she suffered as a teenager.
